Biography

Mildred June Ward, 88, of Waynesboro passed away Monday, January 25, 2010 at Avante of Waynesboro.
Born Wednesday, December 21, 1921 in Sugar Grove, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Avery N. and Mary Jane (Richardson) Ayers.
A woman of strong faith, June and her husband were instrumental in founding two churches, Creswell Christian Church and Raphine Christian Church, her current church family. She devoted her life to family, church and farming.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wright Ward; a brother, Avery N. Ayers, Jr.; as well as sisters, Margie Sexton, Pauline Vaught, Alma O’ Hare and Lorraine Entsminger.
She loved her family dearly and is survived by her three sons, Avery Ward and wife Jane of Churchville, MD, John Ward and wife Mariellen of Spottswood, VA and Jeff Ward and wife Kathryn of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Justin and wife Beth, Joshua, Capt. Elijah and wife Jennifer, Micah, Jordan, foster grandson Adam, Emily and Sarah Ward; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Ryland Ward; special sisters-in-law, Clarice Ward, Inez Ward, Marie Hudson and Belle Ayers, as well as co-grandmother and special friend, Kathy Gill.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, Steeles Tavern with Paul Platt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Justin, Joshua, Capt. Elijah, Micah, Jordan Ward and Shawn Gill.
Honorary pallbearers will be Emily and Sarah Ward.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her Caregivers at Avante of Waynesboro, Rick Modlin, and the Lentati Family.
