Biography

Juanita ‘Nita’ Obenschain Davies passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Shenandoah Hospice House in Fishersville, VA. She was born on December 13, 1918 in Staunton, VA, a daughter of the late Arthur L. and Ethel M. (Bridge) Critzer.
Nita endeared herself to family and friends with her beautiful smile, positive outlook, incredible energy, tenacity, and strength, and infectious sense of fun. She was a light to all who knew and loved her and now takes a rightful place amongst the sun and stars.
She attended Robert E. Lee High School and was employed as a receptionist and assistant for Dr. C. Kirtner Johnson until her retirement. She was a long time member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and in her later years enjoyed being a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Coiner; her husband of 39 years, C. Philip Obenschain, Jr.; and her husband of 20 years, Raymond L. Davies.
She is survived by sister Edith Kerr of Staunton; daughter M. Susan Slaughter and her husband Arthur of Roanoke, VA; son Stephen P. Obenschain and his wife Rose (Kwock) of Springfield, VA; son Walter J. Obenschain and his wife Margaret (Flanagan) of Staunton; daughter Dana O. Steele and her husband Bruce of Mechanicsville, VA; grandchildren Kara S. Murphy and her husband Tony of Brisbane, Australia, Todd A. Slaughter of Arlington, VA, Joshua A. Slaughter of Roanoke, VA, Kristin J. Roberts and her husband David of King William, VA, Jenny L. Johnston of Mechanicsville, VA, Keith S. Obenschain and his wife MiYoung (Lee) of Burke, VA, Jason M. Obenschain of Brooklyn, NY, and Philip G. Obenschain and Rachel E. Obenschain, both of Staunton; great grandchildren, Grayson T. Roberts, Daniel K. Obenschain, and London S. Roberts; sisters-in-law Sue Obenschain of Staunton, Virginia O. Willis of Churchville, VA, Maxene Kleier of St. Petersburg, FL, and Libby Davies of Staunton, a number of nieces and nephews; and innumerable friends. Her extended family includes Robert Davies of Churchville, VA and his children, Scott, Kevin, and Michelle; Barbara Brewer and her husband Richard of Richmond, VA, and their children, Chris, Patricia, and Bruce. She also leaves her sweet dog, Nikki.
Pastor Robert D. McCarty will conduct a graveside service on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m in Thornrose Cemetery.
