Life Legacy


Lt. Commander Frank Ramsey Scruggs, ret, 92 of the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community and formerly of Gretna died Wednesday. July 20, 2010 at King’s Daughters’ Nursing & Rehab in Staunton.
Mr. Scruggs was born January 30, 1918 in Pittsylvania County to the late Bryant and Lillie Scruggs. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Berger Scruggs and four children, Mike Scruggs, Sue Mason Scruggs, Charles Scruggs and Tony Scruggs.
He was a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church in Gretna, VA, the Gretna Masonic Lodge, the Chatham Ruritan Club, life member of the Danville V.F.W. He served in the United States Navy, both in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters where he served on the USS Block Island and the USS New Mexico. He retired after 20 years of service to his country.
He is survived by his wife, Kate Scruggs, one son, Frankie Scruggs, and 3 grandchildren, Stanley Compton, Anthony and Emily Scruggs, all of Gretna. Other survivors include one brother, William Scruggs, and his wife Margaret of Gretna, Madeline Terry of Vidalia, GA and Dee Scruggs Everidge of Waynesboro.
A memorial service honoring Franks life will be held at Greenfield Baptist Church in Gretna by Rev. R.G. Rowland at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 31, 2010. The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
